Episode 1: Choosing A Buyers Agent
Buying a house can be a messy, complicated transaction or a smooth, enjoyable journey! Make the right first step in that journey by choosing the right buyers agent. Here I outline the 5 most important things for you to look for when choosing your buyers agent.
First, you want an agent who is full time and accessible. It is important to find someone with good experience, who will be available when you need them. Often, agents are part-time or seasonal, and may not be available when you call and may have been off the market for a while.
Next, you want an agent who understands the market. The market is dynamic and ever-changing for each community. It is important to have an agent who knows and understands those dynamics and how to maneuver them to best serve you.
The job of a buyer’s agent is to walk you through what can be a really complicated process, so it is important that they are a good communicator and listener. You want to know that an agent understands what you want and that they can express that, especially when they are at the negotiating table with a seller.
That leads us to our next point; you want an agent who is a good negotiator. There are many different moving parts to buying a home, so it is important to have an agent you can depend on to negotiate on your behalf in each of those. Whether it is the home price, the option fee, or negotiating over closing, you want an agent who knows the contract inside and out.
Most importantly you want somebody you can trust as your agent. You want to feel comfortable working with them, knowing that they have your back every step of the way.
